The brief is the grandfather who wants the grandchildren to remember him here. The teenager who has never been further than a city. The five-year-old who needs a pool by four o'clock. Our family itineraries are designed backwards from those quiet truths — and only then forwards to the parks, the lodges, the permits.

Four ways a family travels.
Under 7
Slow days, short drives, water.
Lake Mburo by boat, the Ssese Islands, an unhurried week on the Nile at Jinja. We avoid long transfers and altitude. No gorillas, no chimpanzees — minimum age is 15 at the trailhead.
7 to 12
Naturalists in the making.
Kidepo's plains, Murchison's launch, Queen Elizabeth's tracking. Lodges with pools, private guides for the family, and a quiet day in the middle of the week. Chimpanzees from 12 in Kibale (subject to the family on the day).
13 to 17
First gorillas, first independence.
Bwindi for the eldest, with a parent. A community day with peers in Buhoma. Volcano hikes in Mgahinga, mountain biking on the crater lakes. We design parallel days so teenagers travel as travellers, not as children.
Multi-generational
Three generations, one table.
Private houses with a chef and a host. Grandparents anchor at the lodge while the middle generation treks. We choreograph the days so everyone arrives at sundowners together — that is the brief.
