Ask most travellers to picture East Africa and they will describe a single frame: flat gold grass, a lone acacia, a vehicle at a respectful distance. It is a beautiful picture. It is also one paragraph of a much longer book.
Uganda is forest before it is savannah. It is mist on a ridge in Bwindi, chimpanzees calling across Kibale at first light, the Nile leaving Lake Victoria in slow ribbons, crater lakes in the Rift, and a kingdom whose court still keeps its own calendar. Kenya and Tanzania offer the great migrations and the open plains. Rwanda offers volcanoes and a compact, immaculate route.
Which is why we design by texture rather than by country. A journey composed around forest, water and culture asks for different pacing than one composed around plains and predators — different hours, different lodges, different guides.
The traveller who leaves with the most is rarely the one who saw the most. It is the one whose journey was written in a single register, from beginning to end.
