The Extraordinary Collection

Come looking for the rare. Leave having discovered the unexpected.

For Whom

Composed for composed for travellers who want to go further.

Extraordinary is for the curious, the traveller who would rather follow a rare bird into a papyrus wetland, cross a lake to an island sanctuary, enter a forest few travellers know or climb into a mountain ecosystem unlike anywhere else in East Africa. A journey shaped around Uganda's lesser-seen habitats, remarkable species and the people who know them best. Private, unhurried and adjustable to your appetite for discovery.

A Glimpse of the Itinerary

The arc of Extraordinary Collection

A sketch, never a script. Every journey is rewritten in private for the traveller it is for, then quietly shaped over a single conversation. What follows is the shape of one possible extraordinary collection arc.

  1. Day 1

    A quiet arrival

    +

    Entebbe

Arrive beside Lake Victoria and settle into your lakeside retreat. A gentle first evening, with your journey designer introducing the journey ahead.

  2. Day 2

    The Bird That Time Forgot

    +

    Mabamba Wetland

Before sunrise, enter Mabamba by canoe. Search the papyrus channels for the Shoebill with a specialist naturalist, while the wetland wakes around you.

  3. Day 3

    An Island for Chimpanzees

    +

    Ngamba Island

Cross Lake Victoria to Ngamba Island. Time with the sanctuary's chimpanzee community and the caregivers and conservationists who work with them, then a slow lake afternoon.

  4. Day 4

    Life Between Islands

    +

    Lake Victoria

A slower island day. Choose specialist birding, forest exploration, a private boat journey, local fishing culture or simply time beside the lake.

  5. Day 5

    Westward

    +

    Entebbe → Western Uganda

Travel west by road or private air, the country unfolding through lake basin, papyrus and tea into the Albertine Rift. Arrive in time to settle before the forest days begin.

  6. Day 6

    Into the Congo Forest

    +

    Semuliki

Enter Semuliki's extraordinary forest ecosystem. A guided naturalist walk introduces the Central African species and habitats that make this corner of Uganda so unusual.

  7. Day 7

    The Birder's Forest

    +

    Semuliki

A full day to explore Semuliki at your chosen depth. Curious: a naturalist-led forest walk. Enthusiast: half-day specialist birding. Dedicated: a full-day ornithological expedition. After dark, an optional night forest experience.

  8. Day 8

    Where the Earth Boils

    +

    Sempaya → Rwenzori

Visit the Sempaya Hot Springs before continuing toward the Rwenzori foothills. From rainforest to mountain in a single day.

  9. Day 9

    Birds Beneath the Mountains

    +

    Rwenzori

Explore the montane forest with a specialist guide. Birding becomes part of the mountain experience, with species and vegetation changing as the elevation rises.

  10. Day 10

    The Living Mountain

    +

    Rwenzori

Follow the mountain upward. Forest gives way to bamboo, heather and the extraordinary giant vegetation of the high country. Choose between mountain trekking, specialist birding, naturalist exploration or photography.

  11. Day 11 – 13

    The Mountains of the Moon

    +

    Rwenzori (optional stay extension)

Choose your Rwenzori experience. The Mountain Walker: a shorter introduction to the range. The Explorer: a multi-day expedition deeper into the mountains. The Summit: a serious Margherita Peak expedition for experienced trekkers. The Naturalist: a slower journey through the mountain's ecological zones.

  12. Day 14

    Back Beneath the Mountains

    +

    Rwenzori foothills

Come back down slowly. A quiet day of recovery, mountain views, lodge birding and a final guided walk.

  13. Day 15

    One Last Look

    +

    Entebbe

Return to Entebbe for your onward journey.
