Jinja and the Source of the Nile

A destination in Uganda

Jinja and the Source of the Nile

Where the world's longest river begins, and where it can be felt at first hand.

Jinja is 80 kilometres east of Kampala, on the northern shore of Lake Victoria where the Nile begins. The classic Jinja day is a quiet morning on the river and an afternoon of white water (or a kayak alternative for travellers who'd rather watch the rapids than ride them).

On and off the water

Kayaks, river launches, a slow Nile sundowner. For travellers who want the adrenaline, the grade-five rapids below Bujagali are still some of the best commercial white water in the world.
