Murchison Falls is Uganda's largest national park and arguably its most cinematic. The Victoria Nile compresses to a seven-metre gap before falling into the gorge below. Above and below the falls, classic East African savannah holds elephant, giraffe (Uganda's endemic Rothschild's), buffalo, lion and leopard. Our Murchison itineraries balance the boat journey to the base of the falls, a top-of-falls walk, and game drives at the kind of hours that actually deliver.
River and savannah
The boat journey upstream from Paraa to the base of the falls is the experience that most travellers remember. Downstream, the river opens onto the delta where it meets Lake Albert, and the birdlife (and the chance of a shoebill sighting) is exceptional.
Pairing with the Ziwa rhino sanctuary
On the road north from Kampala, the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is the only place to walk in the wild with white rhino in Uganda. We typically build it in on the way up to Murchison rather than as a separate stop.
