Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

A destination in Uganda

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Three volcanoes, one gorilla family, and the golden monkeys of the bamboo zone.

Mgahinga is Uganda's smallest national park, on the volcanic border with Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It holds one habituated gorilla family (the Nyakagezi) and is the only Ugandan park where you can also track golden monkeys.

Why Mgahinga over Bwindi?

Mgahinga is volcanic, open and dramatic. The trek is often shorter, the landscape more cinematic, and the Nyakagezi family is one of the most photogenic on the continent. The trade-off is permit availability: there's only one family.
