Queen Elizabeth sits between the Rwenzori Mountains and Lake Edward, and the diversity of habitat shows: open savannah in the north, crater lakes in the middle, the Kazinga Channel cutting through, and the wild fig forests of Ishasha to the south. Ishasha is one of only two places in Africa where lions habitually climb trees.
The Kazinga Channel
An afternoon boat journey along the channel is the easiest way to see the park's density of hippo, elephant and birdlife at close range without a drive.
Ishasha and the road to Bwindi
We often run Queen Elizabeth into Bwindi via Ishasha, which is the more interesting route both for landscape and for the chance of tree-climbing lions in the early morning.
