The Rwenzori Mountains

A destination in Uganda

The Rwenzori Mountains

The Mountains of the Moon, and the high valleys most travellers never see.

The Rwenzori are a non-volcanic range that rises to 5,109 metres at Margherita Peak. We design two kinds of journeys here: a luxury-compatible foothill experience (Bakonzo villages, day hikes, hot springs, the lower valleys) and a serious high-mountain expedition for travellers committed to a full Margherita summit attempt, which is a 7–9 day undertaking on its own.

The foothill journey

Two to three days in the Mubuku and Bujuku foothills, walking through Bakonzo villages, mossy lower-altitude forest, and the kind of mist that gives the range its older name. Suitable for travellers in good health, no expedition experience required.

The Margherita expedition

A 7–9 day mountaineering expedition with technical glacier work near the summit. We arrange this only with travellers who are properly trained and willing to take the time the mountain demands. We will not compress it.
